She Spoke {MODERN} Style

I know a lot of you might run for the hills when you hear the term Modern. You might envision all black-and-white Interiors with crystal chandeliers and rigid, uncomfortable furniture. You might think of bright purple sofas, cowhide rugs, and gaudy green artwork. Or you might fear what Doris Day did to Rock Hudson's apartment in Pillow Talk - remember that disaster?

But the term Modern doesn't mean minimal, sterile, or uninviting. In fact, in my book, it simply means not your grandma's style.

Modern Simply Means not your Grandma's Style

You all remember grandma's house, right? It smelled of moth balls, peppermint, and Sunday's pot roast. It had two matching sofas that were upholstered in either a stripe or floral fabric. The side tables were all wood and they matched the coffee table. And then there was that candy dish - full of butterscotch and a random cough drop. As a child, you couldn't run around for fear of breaking something and you had to sit (crosslegged) on the floor to watch that big box TV set.

I think it's pretty safe to say that most of us don't envy grandma's style. It was a little to formal...and well, uncomfortable. We're looking for something a little more casual with a little more style in our living rooms. We want dining rooms that aren't as dressed up and where little ones can color or do homework. We want bedrooms where we can be calm and connected to our loved one rather than separate and stressed. We want Modern homes, homes that are not our grandma's style.
