If you're anything like me, when you hear the term "Bohemian", you envision a tall, skinny blond wearing a "Save the Dolphins" T-shirt with a tasseled tunic flapping in the breeze. She's got her jeans cuffed up and her feet are shod with those strappy water sandals. Personally, I wouldn't wear that style but I admire her free spirit. And that's the essence of the Modern Boho Interior Design Style - free expression.
But just because I wouldn't want a whole wardrobe or home outfitted in Boho Style doesn't mean I can't incorporate a few key elements into my life and style.

Spring is the perfect season to introduce some Bohemian Chic Style into your home! Like I said, Boho is all about free expression. Hang those twinkly star lights you bought at Anthropologie in the corner of your living room, because why not? Paper your walls with a huge floral wall mural! Layer up some rugs on top of your carpet. Do the unexpected. Be unconventional. Think WAY outside the box.
For some of you, the box might be VERY comfortable. You like your greys and your shiplap walls. You like your solid-colored matching pillows and your appropriately-sized striped rug over your oak hardwood floors. Girlfriend, life is too short to live in a grey world! The best part of Spring is after a LONG, GREY winter, you start to see these beautiful yellow, orange, and red tulips pop out of the ground. Pink, purple, and blue azaleas start to bloom and suddenly the world is full of color again. Bring some Boho colors into your home in the Spring and Summer - even if its just with a bright floral throw pillow. And remember, it doesn't have to be your grandma's style of floral pattern!

Adding Boho Style to my home is a challenge for me too. I, like you, am very comfortable with my box (however, my box is full of blues and gold rather than grey and shiplap). But stepping outside your comfort zone can really help you flex those creative decorating muscles. I painted my buffet in my Dining Room a bright mint color. I was hugely scared when I opened that can of paint, but it turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made. So, go be a free spirit and express some Boho Design style in your home! After all, its the one place you have to escape from this crazy world. Why not make it some place awesome?!
