Eclectic Artisan: Live Free at Home

Updated: Oct 25, 2018

Are you a free spirit that doesn't like to be tied down to one system, thought, or belief? Eclecticism may seem inelegant, confused, and lacking simplicity. But the Eclectic lifestyle can be quite freeing from our rigid social structure. Where a Mid-Century Modern woman might draw from one set of values and beliefs, Eclectic Artisans prefer to draw their conclusions from life experiences and a vast number of theories.

Eclectic Artisans are those that delight in a world of being different and unique. They prefer to build and act on a set rules that they have created. And they don't really care what other's think about them and their lifestyle. They may at times seem eccentric but really we can learn from Eclectics to be more childlike, naive, and care-free.

You might be an Eclectic Artisan if...

...you have a childlike, free spirit

Eclectics often embrace a childlike demeanor. This doesn't mean they are childish, but rather they experience the world in a different way. They aren't afraid of change in daily ritual, so they may get up early to see the sunrise or take a new route to work. They are constantly looking for a fresh take on life which may make them appear more random. In truth, though, they are just embracing their inner child by exploring the world around them in new ways.

...you have an open mind when it comes to new experiences

Having a free spirit means you're open to new experiences and adventures. You'd be the first to admit that you aren't all-knowing but you're on a quest to know all. You love new experiences because they give you a chance to learn and grow. It may seem like you change your mind a lot, but really you just love to try new things.

...you have too many interests to count

If you find yourself being drawn to lots of different hobbies, activities, styles, and tastes, you might be an Eclectic Artisan. You may love reading or music but you don't just love one style or genre. You may love the arts, but you don't simply just want to try painting. You also want to try sewing, woodworking, calligraphy, textiles, etc. Having varied interests helps you connect with those around you and experience the world in an unconventional way.

...you try to live an authentic life free from drama

Eclectics don't put on airs. They aren't driven by the thoughts and opinions of others. They are typically unconstrained by society's conventions and do what they want despite what others will think. There's no masking their true nature or camouflaging who they are. They prefer to live in an authentic manner and be surround themselves with drama-free friends.

...you don't worry about fashion or trends

Fashion and trends are just the world's way of telling you who to be. If you prefer to write your own story, style, or taste, then you're probably an Eclectic Artisan. You might like to go against the grain and embrace the opposite of what's popular at the time. This doesn't make you a rebel, this makes you an artisan of life.

"Normality is a paved road: It's comfortable to walk, but no flowers grow on it." - Vincent Van Gogh
