So you've got your Interior Design Style, huh? You know the look you want for your home. But do you know what you want your home to feel like? Do you know what purpose your home serves? Do you know how your home functions?
Maybe you like open floor plans or a minimal style. But does that work for you, for your family, and for your life? You can't have a minimal, mid-century sofa if your husband is the football coach and the team comes over every week to watch films in your living room. Your sofa will snap in two! Ok, maybe I exaggerate, but we do have to get realistic. If you like minimal and mid-century design, but your home's purpose is to entertain while feeling open and airy then maybe you need a compromise. Perhaps a beefier sofa with a mid-century coffee table?

I think you get the idea. The point is that it's just as important for us to know what we want from our house as it is what we want our house to look like.
So now its your turn to get creative! Pull out that dictionary (does anyone still have a hard copy of a dictionary?!) and put your thinking cap on! Its time to define your style words. Style words are not your typical Interior Design words. So try not to use terms from your design style like rustic, minimal, bohemian. Think outside the box to determine what purpose and feeling you want in your home.
I've attached a worksheet below with some inspiration words to get you started. Pick a few and write them down. Try to narrow it down to between 3-5 words so they'll be easy to remember when you're out shopping or presented with a design decision.

Ready? Set? Go style!
