Classic Midcentury Modern Dining Room Design

Updated: Mar 27, 2019

What if you could have your own personal restaurant inside your home? What would it look like? What food would it serve? It's fun to imagine but in reality we all really do have one - it's called the Dining Room! Most of us overlook our dining space - using it as an extra storage space, alternate office, or craft room. But our personal dining rooms are the one restaurant we can sit at the table for hours with friends and just reminisce. We don't have to worry about the waiter who needs the table for his next patrons. We don't have to feel rushed when the busboy comes to clear the table. And we can go "out" simply by staying in!

01. Design

This classic dining room design is inspired by the classic colors of black and white. A bold geometric wallpaper sets a formal backdrop for more casual elements (like leather chairs and a wood dining table) to play off of. A large table and ample seating make this Dining Room the perfect flex space - whether it's being used for Holiday entertaining or homework on weekdays. With subtle touches of blue and green, this environment will be perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine after a long day's work.

02. Finishes

This midcentury modern dining room design showcases a very atypical mix of finishes - introducing modern elements of gold and blue leather and juxtaposing them against natural materials like reclaimed wood and metal. This delicate balance gives the room a luxurious but comforting feel. With a few accessories, the room can be dressed up to show off for entertaining. Yet, it isn't too formal for everyday use. One key design feature is the moss art work that will hang above the buffet. This will help to purify the air of toxins as well as keep the space feeling fresh and clean.

03. Furniture

The furniture in this midcentury modern dining room again shows a mix of modern and natural elements. The focal point of the space is the large reclaimed dining table surrounded by modern blue leather chairs that are easily cleanable for everyday messes. The chandelier above the dining table highlights the eating area and provides ambient light. Since one wall is a large black and white geometric pattern, this design adds in subtle art on the opposite walls.
